Treating Yourself with a Retreat

There is this essence that emerges from Self when we allow the heart to still and the mind to go quiet. It is subtle, sublime. And it is powerful. There is an inner knowing at your very core, and it is hushed, shy. When encouraged, this knowing can be heard.

If there are questions in your mind, decisions you feel the need to make, then offer your mind and your heart some space to reflect upon it. When we fill our every moment with external stimulation (advertising, radio, TV, idle conversation with others, and even our own self-talk), then how can we possibly expect an internal answer to be heard?

A retreat is a wonderful way to provide yourself some space. The experience gives us a chance to "treat" ourselves (and re-treat ourselves) and an opportunity to pull back and pause. Such an event, in my mind, is a necessity at least annually, if not quarterly.

Each retreat does not have to be a grand event or cost a lot of money. Nor does it have to extend over a long period of time. What is required, however, is that you set aside the period of time and that you make a pact with yourself to attend and to be fully present in that event.

I have just returned from a profound retreat of coaches - all trained under the same guiding principles. This event was small, intimate . . . and it was an ineffable experience. It was rich with content and discovery; it provided a safe space for a deepening connection with Self as well as with others that are of like mind and intention. Indeed, this makes for a powerful combination.

I know this has become a catalyst for me and will propel me forward toward my higher vision and dreams.

What are some ways in which you could provide yourself with a "pause" this month - perhaps this week? Might you schedule an afternoon at a quiet spot on the beach? Would you sit in your backyard in the hammock and just "be" . . . dream and allow your mind to wander? Would you luxuriate in a nap? What about sequestering yourself away to a favorite, private picnic spot where you can connect with nature - and with yourself? Is it time to get on that sailboat and hoist the sails?

Perhaps it's not a solitary event, but one that combines the energies of a group of like-minded individuals, as I did. Who would choose to go on this journey with you? Where would you go? And when?

Hold a promise that you will bring this gift to yourself . . . soon.

Have a Golden Day!
Coach Darlene
