TIP #2 for Overcoming Writer’s Block - Breathe

Note: While these entries are written mostly for the writers out there, these techniues can certainly be enjoyed by anyone who wishes to feel more energized.

There are several things we can do when we feel stuck and unable to progress with our current project. My first tip for creative types (writers, artists and the like) was to Create Movement.

Today, I bring you a second tip. As with the previous one, this is something that is easy to do and requires no additional financial investment!

BREATHE. This ties in with Movement, (previous tip), but really is aimed at changing the oxygen levels in our bloodstream. I’m talking about yoga-like breathing exercises, doing some mudras or deep-belly breathing. This gives your mind (and your body) a break.

According to scientific studies, the brain requires more oxygen than any other organ in the body. When it doesn’t get enough oxygen, the result is sluggishness.

Without getting too scientific (because I am NOT!), let us agree that conceptually, when we are under stress or focused deeply on a project, we tend to tense up and breathe more shallow than usual. In time, the carbon dioxide levels increase in the blood and water builds up. Deeper breathing helps dispel the carbonic acid that is produced and, in turn, re-oxygenates our blood.

Although it sounds counter to the previous statement, deep breathing is also one of the quickest ways to relax. And that’s certainly a good thing for all of us.

What works for one, may not work for another. However, I usually find that if we open our minds to new ideas and are willing to roll with the flow, any exercise (physical or mental) that stimlulates us in fresh, new ways, will work to get those creative patterns flowing again.

So what do you do when you feel stuck or stumped? Share your wisdowm with the rest of us, please!
