Today's Gift
Tomorrow is a mystery.
And Today? Today is a gift.
That's why we call it the Present.
Do you find yourself constantly wishing for “more?” Do you feel less successful when your friends seem to have more than you do? This could be more money, more happiness, more success, more friends.
More. It drives us to frustration, it drives us to boredom, and it drives us to higher debt. And we could do better with much less.
Often, we are so busy wanting “more” in our life that we forget to enjoy what we have. Do you have a roof over your head? If you’re reading this, you were able to afford a computer and have connectivity of some sort. You have electricity at the flip of a switch and running water on demand. Did you eat today? Millions of people around the world don’t know of such things.
If you were to take five minutes and consciously think about the many things you take for granted, how many could you list? Express your gratitude. Do it by saying it out loud – “I’m grateful that I was able to eat 3 meals today.” Or, “I am thankful that tomorrow I have a job waiting for me.” It’s okay if no one is in the room or in the street with you to hear it.
Simply by acknowledging your many blessings and rejoicing in the richness in your life brings you into the Present. And when that happens, amazing results begin to unfold. Almost as if by magic, your body stress is reduced, your brain sends signals through your body to create more of the “happy” enzymes, and you begin to notice subtle changes. Suddenly, the world doesn’t seem so bad after all.
And savoring the moments in the day — doing things purposefully and with intention — connects us to the Moment. Whether you’re watering the lawn or doing the dishes . . . do you fully engage in the activity? If you’re going to bake a cake, then do it with gusto, and make it the best darned cake you’ve ever made!
Celebrate your life! Today you were gifted with 86,400 seconds. How did you unwrap it? How did you spend it? There are no refunds, no rain checks.
Have a Golden Day!
